After claiming (in 2002) "There's just too much liability in online publishing and I really don't ever see it catching on" Toby Brooks, owner of the County Star News has finally seen the light (and the savings in not paying a printer).
In the Thursday, August 30th, 2007, edition of his County Star News, Mr. Brooks apologizes rather profusely for doubling the cost of his newspaper and openly seeks more subscribers for the electronic edition. Of course, as we all know, online news and information will never really catch on... Wait a minute... You're already reading (NOW) just exactly what Mr. Brooks has laughed at and ridiculed as "not worth the trouble" for so many years. To make matters worse, after bad-mouthing our news and information sites for so long, Toby Brooks has only just now begun to actively promote electronic publication...
After talking with numerous local residents, the general consensus is that the local newspaper will now join the ranks of other Shamrock businesses that are in dire financial straits. At least, that is, unless and until rates are reduced to reasonable amounts once again. When asked what he thought, an area resident who asked to remain anonymous replied: "Why would I want to pay more to read David Rushing's worthless b*** s*** propaganda? We all know that's all Toby prints in that thing, anyway. I have not bought his newspaper since he only printed David's side of the radio station story in 2002 and has refused to print any of my letters to the editor pointing out that his coverage of the news is only David's version of everything. It's my opinion that his paper is only a kiss a-- thing to begin with and I wouldn't pay a penny for biased news so I surely won't be buying it at the new rip-off price! If I want real local news, I turn to my local radio station and it's websites."
